The School of Artificial Intelligence

The School of Artificial Intelligence (AI) at China University of Mining and Technology-Beijing (CUMTB) is built upon the disciplinary development of computer science and technology, control science and engineering, along with information and communication engineering. Faced with the pressing need for safe, efficient, eco-friendly, and intelligent advancements in mining, the school focuses on mining digitalization and intelligence. It aims to foster a premier hub for innovative AI research and development in intelligent mining technologies and equipment. Our school was established in December 2020, and is co-located with the former School of Mechanical, Electronic & Information Engineering. In May 2023, based on the Department of Artificial Intelligence, Department of Computer Science and Technology, and Institute of Information Engineering, CUMTB officially established an independent School of Artificial Intelligence.

Currently, our school offers three undergraduate majors: Computer Science and Technology (a national first-class major), Artificial Intelligence (a Beijing first-class major), and Information Engineering. We also boast three doctoral and master's programs in Computer Science and Technology, Control Science and Engineering, and Information and Communication Engineering, alongside a professional master's program in Electronic Information. We maintain three postdoctoral research stations in the disciplines above, fostering robust graduate training collaborations with esteemed institutions like the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Tsinghua University, and Peking University. We foster academic collaborations with prestigious institutions like Pennsylvania State University, University of Michigan, Fraunhofer Institute of Technology, and University of Mons.

Our school is dedicated to nurturing high-caliber, cross-disciplinary, and innovative engineering talents with a strong foundation, broad competencies, a practical focus, international perspectives, and sustainable development skills. Current enrollment exceeds 1,000 students, comprising over 600 undergraduates and approximately 400 graduate students. We actively engage undergraduates in competitions like the Computer Application Competition for College Students in the Five Provinces of North China, the “Blue Bridge Cup” National Software and Information Technology Professional Competition, and ACM-ICPC, yielding numerous provincial and ministerial-level accolades.

Led by CAE Member Professor Ge Shirong, our school boasts over 40 full-time educators, including 11 professors and 19 associate professors (senior engineers), with over 90% holding doctoral degrees. Our research endeavors have yielded substantial achievements in mine intelligence, mine communication, geological disaster mitigation, and urban road radar detection. Rooted in the energy and mining sectors, we optimize and integrate internal and external resources to establish a pinnacle for AI and mine intelligence innovation and talent development.
